Mundane Morsel

Sometimes life is just daily

November 24, 2014

Exceptionally gifted

by Megan Stocker in Antipasto, Recipes

A good thing that comes from constantly blabbering on about food and wine is that you become known as a food and wine person--and then, at gift-giving times, receive things to eat and to drink.

A bad thing that comes from constantly blabbering on about food and wine is that you become known as a person who could surely polish off a 1/2 pound wedge of blue cheese before it overstays its welcome.

But when the giver is savvy enough to time the cheese delivery with the arrival of a box of pears riding first-class from California in foam-cushioned luxury (one still draped in a golden pashmina no less), then walnuts are toasted, Greek yogurt is deployed, and all's well that dips well.

Makes my years as a gargoyle person seem tragically misspent.

Blue cheese, walnut, pear spread

  • 1-1/2 cups Greek yogurt (2% fat or higher)
  • zest of one lemon
  • salt and freshly-ground pepper
  • 6 ounces blue cheese, crumbled into small pieces
  • 1 pear, diced
  • 1/2 cup walnuts, lightly toasted and chopped
  • Crackers, crostini, or endive for serving

In a medium bowl, mix the yogurt, lemon zest, salt, and pepper.

Gently fold in the blue cheese, pear, and walnuts. Taste for seasoning.

Transfer spread to a serving bowl--surrounded by crackers, crostini, or endive leaves--and let 'em at it.
